ANDALUCIA, COSTA DEL SOL, TOLEDO (7 Days, 6 Nights)
Andalusia, known by the Romans under the name of “Baetica” and by the Arabs under the name of “Al Andalus,” is one of the Spanish provinces with the highest number of cultural, artistic and gastronomic highlights.
The variety of peoples that have lived in southern Spain through the centuries have left their traces, which will make us feel like having made a journey into the past as we gaze at the Alhambra in Granada, the mosque (“Mezquita”) and the synagogue in Córdoba, the immense Gothic cathedral or the ancient minaret, La Giralda in Seville, the 18th-century bull ring in Ronda or the Alcazaba (Arab fortress) facing the Mediterranean Sea in Malaga.
Toledo towers on top of a hill protected by a bend in the Tagus River to form a natural fortress, complete with moat. No wonder El Greco, that painter of the elongated, was attracted to this vertical city. Once fought over by armies, Toledo was to become a symbol of tolerance as the 13th century capital of King Alfonso the Wise, a center of scholarship that attracted Moorish, Jewish and Christian men of learning.
We will discover the most picturesque of its villages with their whitewashed houses, terraces, patios, squares, alleys and flowered windows. We will also enjoy local gastronomy, visit the wine cellars and taste the renowned sherry (Vino de Jérez).
The diversity of its villages, the landscape and its people are the main high highlights of this circuit.
